Action cameras grew huge popularity in the last couple of years, mostly because of the way content is shared in social platforms in Instagram.

The year is 2020 and it is finally time for us to get a new action camera and become part of the social media hype in Facebook and Instagram.

But we have just one little problem - we have two very strong competitors in the face of
DJI Osmo Action and GoPro HERO 7 Black. They are both very closely priced with slight advantage for the Osmo Action, at least from what we found online.

Pros and cons of the DJI Osmo Action or GoPro HERO 7 Black

After we made a detailed research we reached to the following conclusion in regards of the advantages of one camera over the other:

We watched lots of consumer video reviews for both the DJI Osmo Action and the GoPro HERO 7 Black. The Osmo Action is also pointed as one of the main competitors for the newer and much more expensive GoPro HERO 8 which still lacks integrated front selfie-display and has a tiny rear one, which makes it quite hard to handle functions.

From the chart above and from everything we managed to squeeze from the Internet, the OSMO Action seems like the clear winner for a mid-range action camera in 2020.

Here is a head to head video comparison of the DJI Osmo Action and the GoPro HERO 7 Black:

And here is a video test of the Osmo and what is considered the benchmark in action cameras in 2020 - the GoPro HERO 8:

We found brand new DJI Osmo action cams around $220 and $250. The GoPro Hero 7 Black was around 10% more expensive in the same stores where we checked for the Osmo.

Well, we will give it couple more days for research before we take the decision and pick one of the two action cams.

Meanwhile we will be happy to hear your thoughts and recommendations so please drop us a line in the comments below.
