Welcome back to another hands-on review at testproductreview.com! Today, we are taking a look at how business laptops have evolved over the last few years by comparing two rugged workhorses side-by-side.

We are pitting the brand-new Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 against a reliable first-generation older model. Does it make sense to upgrade, and what exactly has changed? Here is a breakdown of what to expect based on our latest video review.

Design and Build Quality

Right out of the box, you can tell these laptops belong to the same family. Both feature that classic, rugged ThinkPad texture and sturdy build quality. However, the generational differences become obvious when you open them up.

The older model sports a traditional 16:9 aspect ratio with noticeably thick bezels, making the overall footprint much larger. The newer T14s Gen 6, on the other hand, embraces the modern 16:10 aspect ratio [02:12], offering more vertical screen real estate which is far more convenient for productivity. It is also noticeably more compact and lighter—which is expected from the slimmer "s" series.

Another nice aesthetic touch on the Gen 6 is the prominent reverse-notch design housing the camera and microphone [04:20], a feature entirely absent on the older model.

Performance and Efficiency

Under the hood, the leap in technology is massive.

• The Older Gen: Powered by an AMD Ryzen Pro 5 with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, this older machine is still incredibly capable for basic professional tasks, but it shows its age when pushed.

• The T14s Gen 6: Equipped with the new Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, 32GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage [04:55], this laptop is a powerhouse.

The biggest improvement brought by the Intel Core Ultra 5 is in its integrated graphics. With the newer processor, you can easily edit Full HD and even 4K video in programs like Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve [01:14], something the older model struggles with. Furthermore, the efficiency is fantastic; during our months of testing, the T14s Gen 6 easily pushed over 10 hours of battery life [00:29] while keeping perfectly cool.

Keyboard, Trackpad, and Audio

Lenovo knows better than to mess with a winning formula. Both laptops feature super comfortable, best-in-class keyboards with excellent long key travel [02:28].

However, the newer model introduces some very welcome quality-of-life upgrades:

• Wider Trackpad: The Gen 6 ditches the older square trackpad for a wider one that feels noticeably softer and more premium to the touch [03:40].

• Better Sound: Historically, ThinkPads are infamous for having poor speakers since they are strictly business machines. Surprisingly, the upward-firing speakers on the newer model offer a definite improvement [02:52]. While it still lacks deep bass, it no longer sounds overly tinny or horrible.

Final Verdict: Built to Last

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from comparing a nearly 5-year-old ThinkPad to a brand new one is durability. The older model still looks completely new - the hinges are incredibly strong, and the chassis has held up flawlessly [05:20]. This rugged longevity is exactly why it makes sense to pay the premium price for Lenovo's higher-tier T-Series rather than settling for the budget E-Series.

That being said, the overall design, vastly improved graphics, 16:10 screen, and stellar battery life make the ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 an incredible upgrade. It is a fantastic daily driver, and it won't be leaving our desk anytime soon!
