  1. After researching external hard drives, I am surprised by how much price can vary according to type and brand. I think the adage “you get what you pay for” stands true in most cases, or at least when comparing retail prices. Of course I am always looking for a great “deal.” I need a 2.0 USB drive, and the formatting won’t matter to me since I will be re-formatting it with my client server receiver. I found out in an email from my employer, DISH, that they are launching an multi-room DVR soon that I can use an external hard drive to store even more than the 250 HD hours the Hopper stores out of the box. It has to have an external power source, so I’m learning that the desktop models are the choice for me. I like how I can add to my existing storage though since other DVR’s require replacing the storage like the HR34 from DirecTV. That just doesn’t make any sense to me and I can’t figure out why DirecTV would do that.
