ORAL-B PRO 500

I thought about switching to electric toothbrush for some time and I received the ORAL-B PRO 500 as a gift last year. Since then, I have used it as a primary toothbrush and I want to share my opinion for this brand.

Pros:
  • Very good price compared to other electric toothbrushes
  • Two minute timer signal
  • Lasts up to a week with one charge
  • Greatly reduces dental plaque

Cons:
  • Charging is slow
  • The vibrations may irritate sensitive gums
  • Overusing it may cause your enamel to wear down

Features and specifications

The ORAL-B PRO 500 is a lower class electric toothbrush - one of the budget models. You can currently find it for as low as $30.

The toothbrush comes with a charger and one brush head. You have to recharge the ORAL-B PRO 500 every 5 to 7 days for regular use. The recharging takes a few hours, so you can plug it in at night.

The brush head has to be replaced every three months, but ORAL-B PRO 500 has many head options that fit so you can change them and see how your teeth feel.

ORAL-B PRO 500 has a timer for every two minutes of brushing. It gives off three stronger pulses - so you know when to finish brushing.

First impressions of the ORAL-B PRO 500
Before I got the ORAL-B PRO 500, I had never used an electric toothbrush. The immediate results I noticed is that my teeth and mouth feel much cleaner than with standard toothbrush. The difference is so big that you feel unclean if you have to switch back to manual toothbrush.

The ORAL-B PRO 500 cleans deeper and gets out any blockage between your teeth. It can reach places where manual toothbrush cannot. I never flossed, but with ORAL-B PRO 500 I don’t feel the need to.

Results after regular use
The biggest advantage of electric toothbrushes over manual ones is plaque control, or so the advertisement says. In my case, this has been confirmed by my dentist. I used to have dental cleaning every 10 months. At my last check up after 12 months with ORAL-B PRO 500 my dentist said that I don’t require any cleaning since almost no plaque is visible on my teeth.

However, you have to be careful not to overuse the ORAL-B PRO 500. If your gums are sensitive, the vibrations could irritate you and cause bleeding. There are also some reviews on the web that warn that electric toothbrushes can weaken your enamel and cause your gums to lower.

In order to avoid this I recommend to switch back to manual toothbrush from time to time.

Our consumer feedback
The ORAL-B PRO 500 is a great budget electric toothbrush. It’s ideal for first time users since the vibrations are not overly strong. You will like how clean your teeth feel with it and your dentist will see the difference in plaque after you start using it regularly.

However, make sure you switch back to regular toothbrush from time to time to avoid weakening your enamel.
