Couple of days ago we updated our mighty DJI Mavic Air 2 with the latest August firmware update V01.00.0340. And as you have probably heard already, this was a major update with many improvements and new additions. Here are just few of the major ones:

  • Digital zoom
  • Advanced obstacle detection system (APAS) with obstacle avoidance action
  • Advanced gimbal controls - control the speed and movement of the gimbal while recording

As you can see, these are some quite significant changes and we truly believe the Mavic Air 2 comes very close to the complete drone package.

Probably the only thing that DJI cannot change that would be a game-changer for videographers is the lack of side obstacle avoidance sensors, something kept exclusively for the higher and more expensive models. For this reason they included an option to block this kind of movements through the APAS (yes, that is kind of a workaround) so drone pilots would have an option to be almost 100% secured if all flight security options are enabled.
