In today's post I will tell you everything about our first impressions with the DJI Mini 3 Pro, the compact drone that we recently purchased.

DJI Mini 3 Pro - first impressions

Let's delve right into the DJI Mini 3 Pro, the more advanced iteration of the Mini 3 series. While the standard DJI Mini 3 is a commendable choice, the Pro model boasts several substantial upgrades that make it a compelling investment for enthusiasts and professionals alike. If you're passionate about DJI drones and aerial photography, you'll definitely want to hear what this review has to offer.

Our new compact 4k drone - DJI Mini 3 Pro initial review

Before I dive into the technical specifications and performance details, allow me to share my personal journey with drones. As an avid drone enthusiast and seasoned pilot, I've had my fair share of experience with various drone models, including extensively flying the Mavic Air 2.

Unfortunately, a misadventure in adverse wind conditions led to the untimely end of my Mavic Air 2.

This experience motivated me to explore the DJI Mini 3 Pro, a compact drone that promises to fill the void left by my previous companion.

As you can see, I've taken the Mini 3 Pro for a spin already, albeit a few stubborn stickers still cling to its frame. These will be addressed shortly. Now, let's delve into the heart of the matter – the DJI Mini 3 Pro's standout features, performance metrics, and technical specifications.

The camera
The most prominent advancement over its predecessor, the Mini 2, is undoubtedly the camera. Armed with 4K video recording capabilities, the Mini 3 Pro elevates your aerial cinematography to new heights. The camera enhancements extend beyond resolution, encompassing a spectrum of advanced features that cater to both creative expression and functional utility.

Moreover, the camera improvements extend to the realm of photography. The Mini 3 Pro excels in capturing high-resolution stills, offering heightened clarity and detail compared to its predecessors. While both the Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro are capable of 4K video recording, the Pro version's camera system is optimized to deliver superior results, setting a new standard in the compact drone category.

Beyond these critical upgrades, the Mini 3 Pro introduces a revolutionary capability – the ability to rotate the camera. This feature empowers creators to seamlessly transition between horizontal and vertical orientations without sacrificing quality.

Controlled via the remote, this functionality is a game-changer for those producing content tailored to diverse platforms, including social media.

Obstacle avoidance sensors
One of the most significant upgrades lies in the obstacle avoidance system. The Pro model comes equipped with an impressive array of six obstacle avoidance sensors – two in the front, two at the bottom, and two on the sides. This comprehensive setup ensures a high degree of spatial awareness, significantly reducing the risk of collisions during flight. Furthermore, these sensors facilitate smoother and safer reverse maneuvers, enhancing the overall piloting experience.

The Mini 3 Pro's impressive suite of enhancements extends to its weight – an engineering feat that keeps it under 249 grams. This feat carries a host of advantages, including exemption from registration requirements in many countries. However, please note that regulations vary across regions, so it's essential to understand the rules that apply to your location.

Battery life is another forte of the Mini 3 Pro. DJI asserts a flight time of approximately 34-35 minutes on a single charge. While I've only had the chance to verify this claim once, the initial results align with DJI's projections. For enthusiasts seeking extended flight sessions, an optional extended battery is available. It's worth mentioning that opting for the extended battery might push the drone's weight beyond the 250-gram threshold, potentially affecting regulatory considerations.

During my initial test flights, I couldn't help but notice the Mini 3 Pro's reduced acoustic footprint. This drone operates more quietly than its predecessors, a subtle yet valuable improvement for both the operator and those nearby. Additionally, the Mini 3 Pro exhibits commendable stability even in challenging wind conditions, a testament to DJI's commitment to enhancing flight performance.

The remote
Agility is where the Mini 3 Pro truly shines. Engaging sport mode unleashes its incredible speed and responsiveness, attributes attributed to its lightweight design. However, caution is advised, especially when flying in confined spaces.

The remote control, though slightly distinct from the one accompanying the Mavic Air 2, quickly becomes second nature, facilitating a seamless connection to your smartphone for remote operation.

The Mini 3 Pro's impressive range offers considerable freedom, but it's crucial to exercise prudence and maintain visual contact with your drone at all times. While the specs might indicate its capabilities, losing sight of your drone can quickly escalate into a disheartening situation.

In conclusion, the DJI Mini 3 Pro is a compelling choice for anyone seeking a versatile and capable drone. Its advanced camera system, comprehensive obstacle avoidance sensors, and extended battery life position it as a top contender in the compact drone market. However, as with any technology, responsible operation is paramount.

Why not wait a month and review the Mini 4. This review is nearly a year late.
