Asus Zenpad 10 Z300C - convertible tablet review and specifications

Asus Zenpad 10 Z300C is the perfect budget convertible tablet?

The Asus Zenpad 10 Z300C is a convertible tablet launched in 2016. The starting price of the Zenpad 10 was around $250, but nowadays it can be found on Ebay or Amazon for under $150. This makes it one of the middle to budget range tablets. For its price, the Asus Zenpad 10 delivers great quality.

Design and display

The Zenpad Z300C has simple design, similarly to most Zenpad tablets. The frame around the screen is relatively thick, the edges are smoothed out. The back of the tablet is plastic and has a comfortable feel, but it's very far from high end. The Asus logo is in the top left corner on the front, the main camera is right behind it on the top left. If you hold the tablet in landscape position, the power and sound buttons are on the left side.

Once you attach the keyboard, the tablet turns into a small notebook, which I find very convenient. The keyboard is solid, with comfortable key travel and overall good quality. The keyboard and tablet parts of the set are charged separately with a dual battery system.

The Zenpad 10 features a 10.1'' 1280 x 800 display. The color balance and vibrancy are impressive. The blacks are deep, the whites are clear so the display is very good on first inspection. If you look harder, you can notice individual pixels, so the definition isn't that great, but for its price, the display offers good quality.

Features and performance

The Asus Zenpad 10 has 16 GB internal storage, which is enough for most tablet users, but you can boost it via MicroSD if you need.

The tablet is powered by a dual-core Intel Atom x3-C3200 processor and has 2 GB RAM. The processor offers average performance, as seen in other tablets. You can use it for normal activities such as web browsing and non-demanding apps, but heavier apps or 3D games would not load well.

The dual-battery Asus Zenpad 10 can live up to 2 days with average use or slightly above 8 hours on heavy use. This is among the middle to high end of battery life compared to other tablets in the same range.

A surprising good feature of this tablet is the sound system. The keyboard is offers a dual speaker system, which, by tablet standards, performs well above average. Seems like Asus have decided to use the keyboard as an audio lock, which worked very well.

In respect to the cameras - the tablet comes with a 2.0 MP back camera and 0.3 front camera. Neither one of them is great, though. The colors appear washed out and the focus is hit and miss. You won't be able to take any decent photos with the Zenpad 10 unfortunately.
