DJI Mavic Air 2 still worth buying in 2021?

Our thoughts on the "best drones to buy in 2021" and where the Mavic Air 2 is positioned

best drone 2021

We have the DJI Mavic Air 2 for almost six months but it feels like we had it for much longer. The reason for that is its pure performance and usability - we started using the drone from the very first day and literally recorded hundreds of videos, both for work and fun.

Please note that this is not a sponsored post but our honest opinion about the Air 2 drone after six months of ownership.
We would like to discuss with you some key points about this drone and where it would be positioned in 2021 and if we believe it is still worth buying.

Mavic Air 2 and the competition

I believe it would be fair to begin this discussion with the direct competitors for the Mavic Air 2 in early 2021. In our honest opinion, the main competitor and one of the best selling drones in the last couple of months is the Mini 2.

Released just few months ago the Mini 2 turned into one of the favorite drones not only for enthusiasts but also for professional videographers. The main reason for that is what DJI did since the release of the first Mini edition - they listened. DJI listened to their customers and addressed most issues and improved the drone performance, while still keeping it under the regulated limit of 250 grams.

We believe that the Mini 2 will remain the biggest competitor for the Air 2 in the next couple of months until the release of new DJI drone which might be Mavic 3 Pro or Mavic 3 Zoom

Of course competitors may come not only form DJI but other manufacturers as well. We will be happy to see a new drone coming from Xiaomi in 2021. The Mi Drone (and the Mi Drone Mini) achieved some good sales but is still not threatening the best-selling DJI models.

Sure, there are other brands out there that offer decent drones but if we are talking about the mass market it almost seems like it is impossible for them to close anywhere near the DJI performance and sales figures.

Here are some nice views from a cached flight with the Mavic Air 2 in 2020:

We will be happy to hear you thoughts about which drone do you believe is the best to buy in 2021 and why.
