Testing the sound from the cheap lav mic BOYA BY-LM10

BOYA BY-LM10 is not very popular in the sound recording industry but it is one of the cheap tools that would improve the video production of most vloggers.
.
This is basically a cheap omni-directional lavalier microphone using a basic 3.5 mm connector to plug directly into your smartphone (or other device) headphone socket. The BY-LM10 is compatible with most Android and iOS smartphones (some may require adapter).

BOYA BY-LM10 main product features
  • Lavalier microphone for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and most of Android devices
  • Omni directional condenser microphone
  • High-quality condenser mic is ideal for video use
  • Includes lapel clip, foam windscreen, pouch

BOYA BY-LM10 lavalier microphone sound test - video

From this test we can hear that the BY-LM10 definitely improves the overall sound quality. We should be honest though, it is far from the best in class.

But that is fine, we can't expect the best possible quality from a cheaper device like this one.

Price

BOYA BY-LM10 is sold for less than $20.

Now, lets check another test and hear if we can confirm the same sound quality results:

I would say the sound quality from this second test is again quite acceptable and it the upgrade from the built-in microphone is quite obvious.

Conclusion
Well, these were the quick sound tests of the BOYA BY-LM10 lavalier microphone that we wanted to share with you. We will leave it up to you the consumers to decide if this mic is the right fit.

Do you think the BOYA BY-LM10 is a valid competitor for the much more expensive Rode SmartLav+ or the premium price is worth it?
