Logitech Z623 - still good in 2020?

Consumer product review of the 2.1 Logitech Z623 sound system

2020 Logitech Z623 sound system

We bought the Logitech Z623 sound system couple of months ago but not as our main day to day speakers but rather for couple specific purposes. These would be for home cinema and music but not when watching TV or PC speakers.

So, having gathered some feedback in these few months we wanted to share our impressions with you and answer the question is the Z623 system still good in year 2020?

Product overview

The Logitech Z623 has been on the market for quite some time and together with the Z906 they managed to become some of the most popular speaker systems in the last decade.

And there is a solid reason for that! Both the Z623 and Z906 are very powerful and also sound fantastic. That, combined with the relatively affordable price made them really, really popular, especially among gamers and younger consumers that wanted something loud and good sounding.

LOGITECH Z333 Multimedia 2.1 Speakers

The Z623 is a 2.1 speaker system with subwoofer and a total power of 200W (2 x 35W satellites and 130W subwoofer).

Probably the most important feature of the Z623 speaker system is the fact that it is THX certified. What this means is that these speakers met strict performance standards and deliver clear and accurate sound.

And here are the rest of the important Z623 specs:

Logitech Z623 speaker system specifications
  • Total watts: 200 W
  • Subwoofer: 130 W
  • Satellites: 2 x 35 W
  • 3.5 mm input: 2
  • RCA input: 1
  • Headphone jack: 1
  • Controls: Power, volume and bass controls on right speaker
Quality of the sound
Depending on the source, most of the time we used the Logitech Z623 it delivered high-quality sound. And believe us, these speakers are loud. We tested them once or twice at full potential and the subwoofer held up almost till the very end of the power level, delivering crisp and deep bass.

Issues with the Logitech Z623
For the time we used the Z623 we encountered one major issue. The system keeps turning to silent every hour or so, it just stops recognizing the source it is playing from.
Usually, that was a smart TV plugged in. The only solution we managed to find was... yes, you've guessed it, turning the system off and back on again. The worst part is that it doesn't come with any remote control so we literally need to go to the right speaker which has the power button and turn it off and on.

Other than that, the Z623 works just fine in 2020 and delivers as expected - loud, quality sound.
